WoodmenLife Family Days are in full swing!
These fun, family-friendly events are opportunities for WoodmenLife members and their guests to connect with one another, celebrate community, and create lasting memories. This year, every region will host at least one Family Days event, which could include picnics, sporting events, live music, and more.
In April, the Louisiana region hosted a crawfish boil in Scott, LA. The sold-out event drew hundreds of members and guests to enjoy a crawfish feast and learn more about our organization.
Community Outreach Advisor Karen Hebert said crawfish boils have become a staple for members in the region.
“Crawfish season ends in May, and it’s such a big thing in Louisiana,” she said. “You say ‘boiled crawfish,’ and people are coming.”
On the menu at the WoodmenLife Family Days event were crawfish, potatoes, and corn-on-the-cob. A total of 1,200 pounds of crawfish were boiled and served to hungry attendees.

Planning for the event was swift. In a short period of time, the region secured the venue and vendors; found a face painter, band, and balloon artist; and, through word-of-mouth, began inviting guests.
“That’s how we did it,” Hebert said, “and the event sold out in less than four hours.”
On the day of the crawfish boil, Hebert said, guests began arriving well before the 9:30 a.m. start time. They enjoyed snacks, activities, and dancing before lunch was served at noon. Those who wanted something besides seafood could order from a food truck outside, which served hot dogs, chili, and snow cones.
“Everybody loved it,” Hebert said. “We had people who brought guests who weren’t WoodmenLife members, and they had a great time.”

Hebert said events like WoodmenLife Family Days are an effective way to show communities who we are and what we do.
“We make sure we’re floating around the room, throwing out T-shirts and cups, sparking conversations with the people,” she said. “We wanted to make sure we had conversations with everyone there.”
Hebert said WoodmenLife Family Days are pivotal for introducing kids to WoodmenLife.
“I see this every year where we have more kids showing up to events,” she said. “I think these kids will be the ones in the future who will stick with WoodmenLife or get their families more involved.
“It’s a good thing for members to be able to get out and do something family- and kid-friendly. It’s also a good way for us to be in front of people, because it gives families the opportunity to ask about WoodmenLife.”
