WoodmenLife’s Jurisdictional Conventions Showcase Our Democratic Process

Jun 13, 20256/13/2025

Convention News

WoodmenLife members1 and guests gathered this spring to conduct our 23 jurisdictional conventions, which are crucial to our democratic process.

As a fraternal benefit society, WoodmenLife is governed by our members. This representative form of government gives them a say in our organizational and business affairs.

Our Democratic Process

WoodmenLife’s 23 jurisdictions stretch from coast to coast. When members meet every four years, they help direct our affairs.

During the recent conventions, delegates connected with members from other WoodmenLife chapters that make up their jurisdiction. (Chapters are a common form of organization for fraternal benefit societies to provide local representation and to help coordinate community service projects.)

The delegates also conducted business required by our bylaws, like electing officers for the next four years and, if eligible, electing delegates to the National Convention. Plus, they planned for the coming years and helped build momentum toward the National Convention in July.

That’s our democratic process in action.

Input and Outreach

Lending importance to the jurisdictional conventions was the presence of at least one WoodmenLife executive officer or National Director. Their attendance meant members heard directly from our organization’s leaders and gained insight into WoodmenLife’s current position and our future direction.

Thousands of people attended the jurisdictional conventions, which gave us a rich opportunity to make a difference in each community hosting the events. Our delegates made donations and conducted service projects like:

  • Purchasing and dedicating a flagpole, and presenting an American flag in Florida
  • Making a donation and stuffing backpacks in Georgia
  • Supporting a kid’s camp in Kentucky
  • Donating to a laundry service for people experiencing homelessness in Louisiana
  • Supporting a Veterans foundation in Missouri
  • Helping food pantries in Ohio and Virginia
  • Assembling wound-care kits, hygiene kits, and snack packs for those experiencing homelessness in Texas

Next Up

Our democratic process and focus on community outreach will head to the Washington, D.C, area in July for our National Convention. In addition to holding business meetings, sharing information, and shaping the future of WoodmenLife, delegates will pay their respects at Arlington National Cemetery and take in the sights of our nation’s capital.
