Convention News

When our members1 gathered in Washington, D.C., in July for the WoodmenLife National Convention, we spent four days embracing the convention’s theme: “Celebrating the Spirit of America.”

The event marked our 50th National Convention, and it had been eight years since we did it in person. So, we wasted no time making the most of this special occasion.

Day 1

The first day of the WoodmenLife National Convention kicked off with a chance for members to connect and socialize. Two activities helped build momentum:

  • A patriotic photo booth
  • A delicious ice cream social

Day 2

On the second day, we got to work. The General Session was presided over by President & CEO Denise M. McCauley. That day’s highlights included:

  • Recognizing members from across the country and their regions
  • Special videos that highlight our purpose and the spirit that drives us
  • Keynote speaker Corcynthia Williams of the Gary Sinise Foundation, who is a U.S. Army Veteran and the surviving spouse of a fallen servicemember
  • A Celebrating Red, White & Blue® demonstration

Day 3

Day three of the WoodmenLife National Convention paid tribute to those who have sacrificed for us. Activities included:

  • A tour of Arlington National Cemetery, highlighted by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. WoodmenLife members, who are also Veterans, and McCauley laid the wreath.
  • Monuments by Moonlight Tour. Attendees got a nighttime tour of the city’s most famous sites, including the Iwo Jima Marine Corps War Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.

Day 4

On the last day of the convention, McCauley presided over our second General Session. The standout moments included:

  • A gift to Arlington National Cemetery to assist with beautification
  • Election and installation of our National Officers
  • Appointment of membership to our National Committees
  • A special video celebrating the spirit of WoodmenLife

The WoodmenLife National Convention gave us the opportunity to make memories, recommit to the success of WoodmenLife, and work toward making a difference wherever we can.
