Home Office Happenings

WoodmenLife is committed to offering training to our Sales Representatives to help them grow and have the tools they need to best serve our members. Qualifying new full-time Representatives are invited to Sure Start, an interactive training event that helps them kick off their careers with WoodmenLife. During the 12 months following their Sure Start education, these Representatives have a friendly competition with their classmates to see how well they put their lessons into action and compare their sales achievements.

Get to know our June 2025 Sure Start Winner: Jordan Anderson of Rural Hall, NC.

Congratulations on your Sure Start victory! How did you celebrate?

To be honest, I opened the email at 12:39 p.m., smiled really big, and called my dad, Joey Anderson, who happens to be my Recruiting Sales Manager. I told him that I had won, and he congratulated me. I ended the phone call and went straight back to work.

What inspired you to choose a career with WoodmenLife?

I have been around WoodmenLife since I was born. I have seen, from a young age, the importance of WoodmenLife’s community outreach, the benefit of giving back, the strength WoodmenLife offers to members, and the peace of mind knowing that when a member passes away, WoodmenLife honors its contract and pays the death benefit. I wanted to work for a company that was more than just a name on a piece of paper, and WoodmenLife offers so much more. I get to go out on a daily basis and tell people about what we are doing in the community and how we are helping people build better lives for generations to come. I love being able to help as many people as possible and call it work.

Have you always wanted to pursue a career in sales?

Ever since I was a young boy, I dreamed of working with my dad at WoodmenLife. To be honest, though, during my senior year of college, I was struggling with the thought of going into sales. The time to begin working was near, and I was thinking about my future. I began to doubt my ability to live on commission. I feared not being as successful as my dad, my Uncle Wayne, and my cousin Stacy, who have all worked for WoodmenLife. I had many doubts.

Amid my questioning, I was sitting in church one Sunday, and the pastor preached a message on uncertainty, emphasizing how doubt kills. I realized that I had been comparing myself to three legends of WoodmenLife, and I feared I might fail to live up to their legacies. Now, instead of constantly thinking about failure, I consider how I can use what I learn today to make myself better for tomorrow.

What drives you to deliver great service for your members?

The day I signed my contract, my dad pulled me aside and asked if I was certain I wanted to work for WoodmenLife. I told him I was positive. He replied with something that I will never forget: “When you go into houses or people come to your office, you will know more about what they should buy than they do. People will lean on you for guidance, and you should never sell something that isn’t in their best interest. Always treat people like you are talking to your mom or sister.” I live and work by these wise words.

What does success look like to you?

In my opinion, success is helping others, protecting families’ financial futures, growing wealth for generations, and building relationships.

I also think success in sales can be measured by the level of trust members have in me. For example, my father earned the trust of many members, and I’m told often by his former clients that I have big shoes to fill. Building genuine and personal relationships with members creates enough trust that they want to refer their friends and family to me.

This is what success is to me — not the number of sales I make or the amount of commission I take home. Success comes from being face-to-face with a family and showing them the value and importance of what I do. If I get in front of enough people and help enough families, the sales and commission will come.

I may only be a year into my career, but I think success is building trust with my customers and helping my community’s financial security.

Tell us a little about how you’re involved in your community. Why is community outreach so important to you?

I am involved with two local Chambers of Commerce and try to attend every event. I think that showing up, seeing others, and having them see that I care about their success is important. I always strive to help others whenever I can.

The Giving Together project I was a part of last year involved a group gathering to eat pizza and paint the hallway and main entrance of a local church. Also, each quarter, my chapter does a community event. Whether it is going to grocery stores to buy food for a food bank or a homeless shelter, or a dedication where we give Veterans flags, I am there. Oftentimes, I set up events or assist in planning them out. People appreciate that I show up and demonstrate that I care about giving back to my community. After all, it is our goal as WoodmenLife Representatives to give back to communities.

What are your goals for the future?

I am working hard to build a list of members who love and trust me so much that they cannot help but tell others about me. With this mentality, I am hoping to reach as many people as I can, book appointments, write good business, and show others the importance of what I do.

A selfish goal of mine is to stay in the top 20 WoodmenLife Representatives for many years in a row and earn Super Star recognition. One day, I would also love to work hard and earn Top Hat, which is WoodmenLife’s highest sales honor.

One thing I have tried to learn from my dad — who has two Top Hats under his belt, along with many Super Stars — is that the goal should never be a title, award, or recognition. It must always be simply helping as many people as possible. At the end of the day, my goal is to help others with financial protection during tough times. It is so important to keep families in their homes, help send children to college, and pay off any debt.

Do you have a particularly memorable moment from your time so far with WoodmenLife?

My most memorable moment as a WoodmenLife Representative is getting the news in January that I finished 2024 sixth among all WoodmenLife Representatives in the entire country. I started in June of last year, meaning I only had seven months to build my business, whereas most others in the top 20 worked the full year. I may have aged five years in the face because I was smiling so big for so long.
