WoodmenLife members1 Scott and Alisa Morgan of Delaware, OH, focus on making family memories with their three kids, rather than filling their toyboxes.
“Making sure we have the quality time to have shared experiences with each other is really important to us,” said Alisa, a 42-year-old teacher.
“The kids get plenty of Christmas presents,” joked Scott, 46, who works in industrial HVAC and refrigeration. “Years from now, they’re not going to remember that Captain America action figure, but they’ll remember a trip to the west coast of Michigan.”
Scott sees his family’s focus on togetherness as a way to enrich his kids’ futures.
“The time we’re spending with them now is like passing on our legacy,” he said. “I used to hike and backpack. I want to be able to share the things I love and show them there’s so much in the world to see.”
The Morgans’ wish list includes road trips to see national parks in the western part of the country, and maybe another cruise. Their kids — ages 6, 7, and 14 — enjoyed the one they took to the Caribbean.
This summer, they’re looking at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas. (Their youngest kids love to dig in the dirt, Scott said.) The Morgans likely will add on to the trip with a stop in St. Louis, MO.
A love for baseball is something else Scott, who played in high school, and Alisa, who played softball, hope to pass on. In fact, they’re building a batting cage in their basement.
“I coach the kids’ baseball teams,” Scott said. “It’s really important to me.”

Also important to Scott and Alisa is providing a legacy for their kids that comes from life insurance.
“I always thought life insurance was just life insurance,” Scott said.
His friend Nick Mansfield approached him after joining WoodmenLife as a Sales Representative. “Nick taught us a lot about the products WoodmenLife has and their different features. We learned a lot, and he was super informative.”
What stood out for the Morgans was the difference between the term life insurance they each had through their jobs and the permanent coverage offered by WoodmenLife’s My Choice IUL® (Indexed Universal Life)2.
When they chose the IUL, the Morgans took note of Mansfield’s message that there are benefits to owning their own life insurance. For example, life insurance through work often doesn’t go with employees if they change jobs.
They also liked how the IUL has the potential to grow cash value. Scott said there was comfort in knowing there could be resources available3 to them if, “down the road, there was some sort of catastrophe.”
“Being where we are now puts my mind at ease,” Alisa said. “If something terrible happens, our kids can keep their same lifestyle.”
Their peace of mind leaves them in a good place so they can concentrate on making family memories. That includes visiting all the Major League ballparks — another vacation goal of theirs.
