Chapter 3 in Greenville, SC, has won WoodmenLife’s Chapter of the Year award. Members earned this honor by working hard to make their community better.
The chapter meets four times a year to plan how they can help others, and members spend time and money on projects that matter locally.
The chapter provided Chick-fil-A lunches and gift cards to teachers at Travelers Rest High School, showing appreciation for those who educate children. Chapter members also honored local heroes by serving meals and presenting gift cards to firefighters at Greenville City Fire Department Station 7.
“They believe in recognizing those who serve our community every day,” said Deborah Barnett, a Sales Representative and Chapter 3 President. “These small gestures of appreciation make a big difference.”
Because hunger affects many people in the area, Chapter 3 members donated 215 pounds of food to the Harvest Hope Food Bank. That donation helped families throughout South Carolina.
They also supported those in need through the Berea First Baptist Church Reaching Center. The chapter provided meals for 25 people and assembled 50 hygiene bags, investing more than $2,400 in these community service projects.
Chapter 3 believes in taking care of its own members. When needed, members have provided meals, transportation, and money for medical care. The chapter spent a total of $1,600 on member support in 2024.
“The strength of our Greenville chapter comes from how members care for each other,” Barnett said. “They’re not just an organization — they’re a family.”
The Greenville chapter hosts two family events annually — a Greenville Drive baseball game in the summer and a Swamp Rabbits hockey game in the winter — as well as quarterly meals at a local restaurant . These events bring members together and create opportunities to introduce new people to WoodmenLife.
“These gatherings create connection within their chapter in Greenville,” Barnett said.
Chapter 3 continues to grow, recently welcoming two new members to the WoodmenLife family. The chapter planned a membership drive for 2025 to bring in more members who share their values.
The chapter also works to support the Sales Force. At its 2024 Annual Regional Event (ARE), the chapter recommended six people as potential WoodmenLife Sales Representatives. This effort will help keep our organization strong into the future.
The chapter has a partnership with Berea First Baptist Church Reaching Center and is exploring work with Front Porch Housing Authority to help those with addiction challenges in the Greenville area.
Chapter 3 also invested in the future by purchasing a $4,800 utility trailer for events and contributing $1,500 to the State Disaster Relief Fund.
“When we grow together and help others, we make tomorrow better for everyone. What we do today matters for our future,” Barnett said.
