For several years, WoodmenLife has proudly donated American flags to be displayed at the Durham Museum in Omaha, NE.
In January, WoodmenLife presented 31 new 3’ x 5’ American flags at a ceremony at the museum.
There are 16 flagpoles on the upper deck of the museum’s parking area facing north. The flags need to be replaced often due to their exposure to the elements.
“It gets very, very windy in the Grand View neighborhood,” said Kim Henze, Director of Museum Operations for the Durham. “For many, many years, WoodmenLife has been supporting our efforts to wave the American flag out front.”
Representing WoodmenLife at the ceremony was Sales Representative Sussie DeVeney, Recruiting Sales Manager Rob Williams, Regional Director Tyler Lawrence, and Community Outreach Advisor Deidre Snow.

DeVeney and Williams spoke about the importance of WoodmenLife’s donation to the Durham.
“What really makes us unique is our dual purpose,” DeVeney said. “We’re not just a life insurance company — we’re a not-for-profit, member-owned organization. Our members have the opportunity to connect, serve, and support the communities throughout our nation’s chapter system.”
Williams and DeVeney said they were honored to be part of this donation to the Durham Museum and hope to continue supporting different organizations with flag donations.
“I think this is a great location for us to donate, as far as the heritage in Omaha goes,” Williams said. “They have a beautiful skyline with those flags on display, so we’re honored. Our organization has a similar perspective with giving back to the community, so to come out here, it really aligns with our values.”
“We almost have a shared history,” DeVeney added. “To be part of this presentation means a lot to me. Donating flags to other organizations makes a huge impact.”

WoodmenLife has a long history of providing American flags to nonprofits, schools, civic organizations, and First Responders across the country. In total, WoodmenLife has donated more than 4 million flags since our patriotic program began in 1947.
“It’s the most recognizable symbol of our nation’s commitment to freedom,” Williams said. “We believe the best way to promote the ideas that made our country great is to make the flag a constant, visible reminder of the sacrifice of those before us.”
