Nearly 60 WoodmenLife volunteers are gearing up for a unique and humbling role helping children who’ve had a parent killed in military service. They are helping the Snowball Express, a therapeutic five-day retreat that this year will welcome more than 1,750 children to Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.
This yearly event, made possible by the Gary Sinise Foundation and a host of sponsors, including WoodmenLife, blends fun for the kiddos and surviving parents with inspiring programs designed to help families heal. There they can lean on peers for support and not feel different.

So what role will WoodmenLife folks be filling? Our organization is providing 800 3-by-5-foot flags and 8-foot flag poles and bases for the Memorial Heroes Garden at the event. They’ve already started unpacking and assembling the fixtures, and began setting up the garden today at the resort.
When the event starts Dec. 8, volunteers will act as guides to help families find their loved ones’ memorials. Each of the 800 flags means so much to the families who come to Orlando from across the country. One flag in particular will represent three fallen service heroes from the same family.
